We hope this message finds you well and ready for the weekend! It's been an exciting and eventful week here at Descanso Elementary, and we're thrilled to share all the highlights with you.
Back to School Night
First off, a huge shoutout to all the parents who joined us for Back to School Night! It was fantastic to see so many familiar and new faces in the crowd. Teachers and staff are buzzing with enthusiasm about the year ahead, and your support means the world to us.
Student Council Campaign & Speeches
Our students never cease to amaze us with their leadership skills and creativity. This week, we kicked off our Student Council campaigns, and the speeches were something to behold! The passion and dedication of these young leaders are truly inspiring. We can't wait to see who will represent our student body this year.
Redhawk Recognition Assembly
Our Redhawk family came together for a special Recognition Assembly to celebrate the achievements and good deeds of our students. It's incredible to see the kindness and excellence that radiates from our young scholars. Keep up the fantastic work, Redhawks!
Lunchtime Fun & the Heatwave
With the unrelenting heat this week, we made sure our students were comfortable. They enjoyed their lunches under the cool shade of our covered lunch area. Afterward, to beat the heat, we had indoor playtime. Safety and comfort are our top priorities, and we appreciate your understanding during these hot days.
Book Fair Preview
The Book Fair preview was a huge hit! Students eagerly browsed through a wonderful selection of books. Remember, next week, we're having a class shopping day, and parents are welcome to join their child before or after school. It's a great opportunity to encourage a love for reading and explore some fantastic titles together.
Labor Day Weekend Reminder
Don't forget, there will be no school on Monday, September 4th, in observance of Labor Day. We hope you and your family have a fantastic long weekend planned!

We are pleased to announce Cynthia Roben, Alex Brown, and Taylor Simpson as our newly elected parent representatives for the School Site Council (SSC). We extend our heartfelt congratulations to them and express gratitude to all the dedicated nominees. Back to School Night: Thank you to the Descanso Library and the County Health & Engagement Team for supporting our school at Back to School Night! We had over 130 families join us! Thank you for all your support! |

| Did you know that you can get a used laptop or desktop computer loaded with educational software for as little as $100???
The event will be from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 9 at the San Diego County Office of Education main campus: 6401 Linda Vista Road in San Diego.
Those who wish to get one of the computers are asked to register by Sept. 6 to ensure a computer will be available. Walk-ups will also be accommodated if possible.
