Parent Update Friday, May 16, 2025 |
Dear SD 308 Community,
What a year it has been! From sharing “Our Story” to welcoming a new Board of Education just last week, we have accomplished so much these last several months. Our students have grown as learners, our staff have grown as leaders, and our community has grown as a whole.
As the year comes to a close, I want to thank you for your collaboration and support as we continually strive to improve the ways in which we serve our students, staff, and community. We are incredibly grateful for everyone’s feedback throughout this past school year; it was truly a privilege hearing your voices as together, we built our Strategic Plan.
We have so much to celebrate in the coming days and weeks — and some celebrations have already begun! At Monday’s Board of Education meeting, we had the pleasure of recognizing a number of our students and staff members. Several high school students have recently excelled in competitions, particularly at the SkillsUSA Illinois State Championship and the Illinois Design Educators Association State Competition. Additionally, dedicated staff members in our Transportation, Finance, Operations, and Technology departments and the District Administration Center received PRIDE awards during our final PRIDE recognition of the year.
Our Senior Awards Nights and Alumni Walks also took place this week. These are such great traditions that allow us to honor our students’ accomplishments and celebrate their roots in this district. Looking ahead, we wish our high school graduates all the best as they embark on the next chapter of their journeys. We are grateful for their contributions to our story during their time in SD 308. We are also eager to acknowledge our eighth grade students during next week’s Eighth Grade Promotions. This is an exciting time as they prepare to make the transition to high school in the fall.
Enjoy your summer break. I hope it is a time filled with relaxation and new adventures! We look forward to seeing everyone at events over the next couple of months and back in our schools this fall!
All the best, |

Help Us Have a Healthy End to the School Year! |
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has reported cases of measles in our state in the midst of an unprecedented surge throughout the United States.
Measles is highly contagious and can be fatal, especially in school-aged children. Vaccinations are essential for safeguarding children and school communities by preventing disease outbreaks, protecting vulnerable students, minimizing absenteeism, and ensuring compliance with school and state regulations. Your help is critical in ensuring that students are vaccinated and that proper outbreak control measures are taken to prevent the spread of measles.

Year after year, Oswego High School’s online multimedia publication, 42Fifty, and the Reflector yearbook demonstrate journalistic excellence.
Both publications have received recent recognitions from the Northern Illinois Scholastic Press Association (NISPA). Additionally, two students made history placing at the IHSA Journalism State Final, and the Reflector was presented with the prestigious Gallery of Excellence Award from Walsworth.

| Long Beach College and Career Fair Teaches Possibilities |
Colorful poster boards filled the cafeteria during Long Beach Elementary School’s recent College and Career Day, an opportunity for fifth grade students to showcase their research on different universities, jobs, trades, and more.
Long Beach has a history of facilitating similar college-related events, but none quite like this. The addition of the career element allowed students with varying passions and abilities to explore a wide range of future possibilities. This also marks the first time since 2019 that such an event has taken place.
