It’s been a very busy time since spring break! I’ve had several meetings with staff, parents, and students who are concerned about the impact of the budget reduction plan. I really appreciate these opportunities to discuss the gravity of the situation and convey that no one wants these changes. I enjoyed a visit to Golden View Elementary and was uplifted to hear about all the collaboration, which is perhaps best exemplified by the school’s commitment to the inclusion of special needs students.
I attended PTA Advocacy Day and thought it was one of the best yet, with substantive conversations by every panel. This was the perfect segue for this week’s Coast2Coast federal advocacy trip to Washington, D.C., hosted by CSBA and ACSA. We heard from researchers, lobbyists, and staff in preparation for meetings with Congressmembers. Mt. Diablo Trustee Cherise Khaund and I met with Congressman Mark DeSaulnier. We thanked him for supporting HR 2598, which aims to fulfill federal funding commitments under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). We also discussed key federal issues, including Medicaid funding’s vital role in supporting California’s children and families, and shared concerns about immigration.

#WeAreSRVUSD: Cammack Connection |
It’s been an eventful and productive week across the district. I had the opportunity to visit Gale Ranch, Del Amigo/Venture, and Vista Grande. These site visits are always a true highlight for me. Hearing directly from staff and students about what’s going well and where support is needed helps me understand the unique dynamics of each campus and provides me with valuable perspective to make informed decisions on behalf of our schools.
Finally, it was a true honor to attend the SRVEF’s Night with the Stars celebration. It was an inspiring evening celebrating the outstanding work of the Education Foundation and all our affiliates. Their efforts enable us to realize the academic excellence of a community united by a shared goal. |

School Highlight: Deep Learning and Innovation in Action
|
Students at John Baldwin had a wheel-y great time thanks to an engaging and practical assembly and after-school workshop hosted by Forward BMX and California Bike and Snowboard. Students learned about bike safety, pursuing what they enjoy, and building skills through perseverance. Later, they rolled up with their own bikes to get expert tips on maintenance and repair. It was the perfect combination of learning and doing - applying knowledge to practical action. A huge shoutout to the Cougar PTA for making this awesome event possible for our students! |
