Motorized Scooters or eScooters With the uptick in seeing students on motorized scooters or eScooters, we wanted to share the following information from the Roseville Police Department:
Before you add electric scooters to your child's shopping list, there are requirements for operating e-scooters you need to know before purchasing/riding. To drive an e-scooter, the operator MUST have a valid learner's permit or driver's license. What does this mean for you and your family?
1) If your child is in elementary or middle school, they CANNOT RIDE AN E-SCOOTER.
----> Only if they are 15.5 years old with a learner's permit, or 16 years old with a driver's license, can they operate motorized scooters. PARENTS, it is YOUR responsibility to know that your child is younger than 15.5 (because they can't have a valid permit if younger), it is illegal for them to ride an e-scooter.
2) NO PASSENGERS are allowed on electric scooters. This means your kids cannot ride on one e-scooter at the same time. 3) *Helmets aren't an option. They are required.* If your child does not have a helmet, consider making a CPSC-compliant helmet the first purchase you make. Should your child arrive at school on an eScooter, we will contact you to pick it up. We will NOT allow them to leave on it. Thanks for your understanding! |
