Message from Superintendent Veal

Dear Bayshore Community,

As we move into the final weeks of the school year, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for your ongoing support of our school & district. The outstanding turnout at our spring parent/teacher conference week was a powerful reminder of the strong partnership we share. Your engagement and commitment are essential to our students’ success, and it is clear that our community deeply values education.

With just a few weeks left in the school year, I encourage everyone to maintain our efforts towards excellent attendance and punctuality. Each day of learning is important, and arriving on time ensures that our students can make the most of every opportunity. Let’s finish the year strong together!

I also want to acknowledge the uncertainty we are all feeling regarding the state budget. Please know that, despite these challenges, our priority remains steadfast: supporting our students’ growth and well-being. The BESD Board of Trustees, Bayshore administration and I are committed to upholding our vision of social-emotional and academic excellence, and we will continue to make decisions that put students first.

Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and your dedication to our schools. Together, we will continue to nurture a thriving learning community.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Veal

An Update from Mrs. McZ

Dear Bayshore Families,

Spring is in full swing, and our students are buzzing with excitement, curiosity, and creativity! As we head into the final stretch of the school year, I want to take a moment to thank all of you who were able to attend parent-teacher conferences. Your partnership and investment in your child’s education make a meaningful difference in their growth and success.

We have several exciting updates and events happening across our campus:

🎨 STEAM Night
Thank you to those who were able to make it to STEAM night on April 23, 2024. We had a great time making puffer rockets, stomp rockets, and building ping pong paths. We enjoyed Kona Ice and popcorn and the student council had snakes for sale.  Thank you to all of the 8th graders who volunteered their time to help out. Special thanks you to Mrs. Hansen and Ms. Kris for your help throughout the event.

🦋 PreK and TK: Exploring the Butterfly Life Cycle
Our youngest learners in PreK and TK have been observing one of nature’s most fascinating transformations—the life cycle of a butterfly. The students currently have chrysalises in their classrooms and are eagerly waiting to see their butterflies emerge!

📚 March Madness: Multicultural Read-Alouds
In celebration of reading and cultural diversity, Ms. Petersen and Mrs. Young’s classes are finishing up their March Madness book bracket. Each week, students voted for their favorite multicultural read-alouds, and they’re about to crown a champion!

🎤 Poetry Slam in 5th Grade
I had the pleasure of attending Mrs. Smith’s Poetry Slam, where students showcased their writing with pride and confidence. They shared a variety of original poems—from haikus and diamantes to alliterations and acrostics. It was a beautiful celebration of voice, creativity, and language.

🧒🏽 After School Program Update
We are sad to share that we will not be partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula for after school care next year. We understand how important this program is for many of our families and are actively exploring alternative options. We will keep you informed and share updates as soon as we have more information.

As always, thank you for your continued support. Bayshore is a special place because of the dedication of our students, families, and staff. Let’s finish the year strong—together.

Sense of Belonging Survey

As you may be aware, we have a school/district goal to strengthen our family engagement (LCAP Goal 1).  In order to put a plan of action together we first want to get your input about our communication practices and your sense of  belonging at Bayshore.  YOU are an essential part in our efforts to increase student academic achievement, so this is an important first step for us to take to meet our goal.

Please click on the link below titled “Family Survey” to give us your input.  It’s a short survey that shouldn’t take more than 10 min to complete.  Your information will be kept confidential.

The deadline to give us your input has been extended to May 2nd.  Please share your input.

If you have any questions please call the school at 415-467-5443 to get support.

Community Schools Update

Hello Bayshore Families!

May will be an exciting month for the Community School.  We should know by the end of May that we have received the next grant that will take us through the next 5 years (Aug 2025 - June 2030).  When we receive that grant we will be able to start planning for additional supports and structures to benefit student growth.

Upcoming Events

Enrollment for summer programming is well under way.  This year there are two programs operating on the campus during the summer from June 16 - July 11 (with June 19 and July 4 off for holidays).  Both of the summer programs are at NO COST to Bayshore families whose students attend The Bayshore School.  Breakfast and Lunch will be provided throughout the session duration.  For more information and if you have any questions, please email me: kcarroll@thebayshoreschool.org.

BIG LIFT INSPIRING SUMMERS (BLIS) [8:00am - 4:00pm]

Enrollment for this program has already begun. The Big Lift’s free Inspiring Summers program helps students boost language and literacy skills while having fun. Past families talk about how it helps kids grow, shine, and beat the summer slide! This program is now open for all students who will be in Kinder - 3rd grade in the 2025-26 school year and who could benefit from literacy and math support during the summer to keep their skills fresh.

Overview of the school day:

8:00-8:30 Breakfast and Community activity (families encouraged to participate)

8:30-11:45 Morning Session (Reading, Math, Phonics instruction)

11:45-12:30 Lunch and Recess

12:30-4:00 Afternoon Session (STEAM, movement and mindfulness activities)

There will also be 3 field trips throughout the summer to various enriching activities.
