Principal's Message

4.4.25

Dear Prairie Point Families:

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break! While it was nice to have time away from our schedule, it was so great to see our students back in school! We are working hard in all areas and already are looking forward to many fun end of year activities and events.

This week, we celebrate assistant principals’, paraprofessionals, and school librarian appreciation week. A big THANK YOU to Mrs. Pynenberg, all of our amazing paraprofessionals, and Mrs. Seiple for all the ways they contribute to the success and positive school climate at Prairie Point!

Students in 5th grade will be taking the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) Tuesday, April 8th through Thursday, April 10th. This assessment helps families understand how well students are performing academically and see whether they are on track to succeed in college. Please ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast on the days of testing. If you have any questions regarding the assessment, feel free to contact Cody Pynenberg, Assistant Principal: cpynenberg@sd308.org.

Please note our upcoming special attendance days and special events:

Monday, April 7: NO SCHOOL (School Improvement Day)

Thursday, April 10: Spring Picture Day

Friday, April 11: Spring Dance - 6:00-8:00pm

Friday, April 18: NO SCHOOL (District Closed)

Monday, April 21: NO SCHOOL (District Closed)

Week of May 5-9: Educator/Staff Appreciation Week

Wednesday, May 14: Prairie Point Alumni Walk (3:15 pictures in front; 3:30 walk the halls one last time)

Once again, I wanted to thank our school community for your continued support and commitment! We appreciate your partnership and dedication to our students.

Sincerely,

Noelle Fahey

Principal

Art Room

Calling crafty families!

The art room has a weekend or evening task for families interested in some unplugged and together time.  Students have been peeling old broken crayons as an optional activity after their work is complete.  These peeled crayons will be melted into recycled crayon cookies which will later be used as prizes in the art room.  If your family is interested in helping, please email Mrs. Collins directly.  I will provide all materials needed including a page of simple directions.  You will have a week to complete the task or you can send it all back if the timing is not right.

Thank you!!

Mrs. Bev Collins

Calling all bakers!

The art room is in need of frosting containers! Perhaps your family needs an excuse to bake a cake.  Maybe your family already has some baking planned. Send any and all 16 oz. plastic frosting containers to the art room.  They are the perfect size for water cups, marker storage and passing out of materials.  Please be sure they are completely empty and clean before sending them to school with your child.

Thank you!

Mrs. Collins

Prairie Point Lunch Heroes

Dear Prairie Point Families:

We are excited to bring Prairie Point Lunch Heroes back this school year! Prairie Point Lunch Heroes is a volunteer option extended to parents/guardians, where you can come in for a 40 minute length of time to supervise your child’s lunch and recess time. This opportunity allows you to be a part of your child's daily adventures and contribute to the safe and supportive atmosphere of our school community.

Your presence during these moments is not only valuable to your child but also enhances the sense of safety, community, and partnership we strive for at Prairie Point. We appreciate your consideration!

Please note that there is a maximum of one sign-up slot per child. If we have room to open it up for more, we let everyone know.

More details are located in the event sign up, linked HERE. Thank you for your ongoing support and for being a special part of our extended school family!

Nurse's Message

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced that in line with the national trend, the state’s overall respiratory illness level has ticked up from "Moderate" to "High," driven by an expected early winter jump in hospital admissions. The IDPH Respiratory Illness Dashboard has recorded four pediatric deaths this season from flu, COVID-19, and RSV, providing a stark reminder about the importance of vaccinations for children and of the risk of serious illness from these largely preventable seasonal illnesses.

With the increase in respiratory viruses, as well as norovirus, ISBE and IDPH would like to encourage schools to double down on everyday actions to prevent and control transmission within the schools with these five steps:

Take steps for cleaner air
Cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting
Hand washing
Respiratory etiquette
Vaccinations
