Veterans Day

We will be observing Veterans Day on Friday and will not have school on 11/10. As we approach Veterans Day, we have a wonderful opportunity to teach our young children about the significance of this important day and the sacrifices made by our veterans. It's a chance to instill in them a sense of gratitude and respect for those who have served our country. Here are some resources and tips to help you talk to your children about Veterans Day:

  • Age-Appropriate Books: Share age-appropriate books about Veterans Day and the experiences of veterans. Some popular titles include "The Wall" by Eve Bunting and "Hero Dad" by Melinda Hardin.
  • Videos and Documentaries: Find child-friendly videos or documentaries that explain the history and purpose of Veterans Day. Platforms like PBS Kids often have suitable content.
  • Online Resources: Websites like the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the History Channel offer valuable resources and activities for kids.
  • Gratitude: Teach your child to say "thank you" to veterans they encounter. A simple "thank you for your service" can make a veteran's day.

Veterans Day is an excellent opportunity to teach our young ones valuable lessons about patriotism, empathy, and respect.
