A Message from Superintendent Dr. Khelghati |

During this incredibly difficult time, we offer our heartfelt condolences as we join with our neighbors in Plainfield to mourn the senseless death of a young child, and the terrible injuries sustained by his mother this past weekend.
As an SD308 community, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive learning environment for all students. We want to use this time to reassure each and every student that they belong here and that they are valued and loved. We are one community, united in our desire to support all students.
When a tragedy occurs close to home, it can really shake us, especially during a time of increased and ongoing issues in the Middle East. There are no soundbites or quick assessments that can be made, given the tremendous loss of life and complexity of what is happening. In our communities here in 308, we must seek to learn and understand each other. Furthermore, our students need to feel the reassurances of love and fairness.
Please reach out to your school principals and staff if your student or family needs extra support. We have counselors in each school available to help provide reassurance and resources as we navigate through this trying time. In addition, here are some online resources from the National Association of School Psychologists that may be helpful to your family in guiding conversation.
Please know that the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority, and every concern is handled seriously. Remember to always speak up if you hear or see anything concerning.
We send our deepest condolences to those mourning the loss of this young child. We remain hopeful for peace and healing across our world. |

10th Annual Fill It Up Food Drive
We are in the final two days of the Food Drive Collection! Each year we are so proud to be the single largest donation for the Kendall County Community Food Pantry, which serves over 2,000 area families each week! Year after year we break our record, having an incredible impact on the assurance of food to our neighbors in need.
We need your help! Our numbers are tracking far behind last year’s total! For each $1 donated, 8 items can be purchased using the pantry’s buying power, so for each $1 you donate, your child’s school will receive a credit of 8 items towards the competition total.
|
|
|
| When we all do a little, it adds up to A LOT!
|
|
|
Last year’s winners were: - Churchill Elementary (Grand Champion and Elementary Winner)
- Bednarcik (Junior High Winner)
-
Oswego East (High School Winner)
We collected over 400,000 items and cash equivalent for the pantry last year, let’s work hard together to break that record! Impact Example:
If every student and staff member gave just $3 towards the drive, we would BREAK OUR RECORD with a nearly 500,000 item donation!!!
Please donate today, you can do so easily online here, choosing the school you’re supporting in the competition. HURRY! Collection ends TOMORROW!
SD 308 has now donated a total of 1,739,809 items to the KCCFP since starting the food drive! |

Bus Driver Appreciation
Monday, October 23 is Bus Driver Appreciation Day! Across the state, a day is set aside to celebrate and thank those who drive and monitor our buses each day. These individuals start their day early, sometimes in very cold, rainy, and snowy weather, driving many miles to safely pick-up and drop-off our students across the 68 square miles that make up our district. We couldn’t do it without them!
Please join us in saying THANKS to our bus drivers and monitors! |
| #ThankAPrincipal National Principal Appreciation Week! Join with us in celebrating the tireless efforts of our amazing school leaders who do so much for our students, staff, and community! |

New Dashboard with Live Traffic and Bus Route Delays
We are using a new website latebus.sd308.net where traffic alerts and bus route delays are posted live as they are available to the Transportation dispatch team. This quick resource helps when trying to determine if traffic, weather, or other factors are leading to a delay in bus routes, and keeps parents informed of estimated bus arrival times.
