November Announcements

Dear Roderick Families,

I hope you are having a fantastic fall! Students have been very successful over the first two months of school. I am continually impressed as students have shown respect, responsibility, and ready to learn behaviors during the start of the 2022-2023 school year. The September/October Word of the Month was Responsibility, as students have been learning about responsible decisions and actions throughout the school day.

Congratulations to the September/October Students of the Month who were responsible members of the Roderick Community! Student of the Month winners will have their pictures posted in the Roderick Lobby and have lunch with Mr. Martes and Mrs. Dietz in early November.

The Roderick Elementary School Word of the Month for November is Respect. Students will learn about various ways to show Respect to peers, staff, and family members throughout the month of November.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Mr. Kevin Martes

Principal

Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences

The fall parent conferences will occur on Tuesday, November 1 (evening) and Thursday, November 3rd (afternoon).

Since a successful parent-teacher conference is a joint enterprise, we ask that parents arrive prepared with the following information for the conference:

  • Your child’s behavior at home.
  • Health habits, including eating, sleeping and general disposition.
  • Use of time out of school, including play, reading, study habits, television, hobbies and interests.
  • Relationship with parents, other members of the family, friends, and neighbors.
  • Attitude toward authority and ability to accept direction.
  • Observations of your child’s home and community life, which you feel will help the teacher “know” your child.
  • Your child’s feelings about school.
  • Questions you may want to ask about your child and his/her progress.
  • Suggestions which would help the teacher work more effectively with your child.

We look forward to making parent conferences a successful experience for all families!

Roderick Counselor's Corner

November’s word of the month, and focus for schoolwide classroom lessons, is Respect. Lessons will focus on thinking before you speak, using your social filter and noticing tone of voice.

What is it? Respect is consideration and thoughtfulness of the feelings, wishes and rights of others

Why is it important? Respect in our relationships builds feelings of trust, safety, and well-being. We feel comfortable expressing ourselves when we are respected by others. Being respected by important people in our lives will also help us learn how to be respectful towards others.

What does it look like? We can show respect by listening to others, being kind, polite, and thankful. It’s important to value another individual’s feelings and needs. In the classroom, it is looking at the person who is talking, sharing, waiting your turn, being kind and helping each other.
