May News

Dear Delaney Families,

I hope that you and your families were able to enjoy the April vacation week. It's hard to believe that May is already upon us. The spring weather can vary throughout the day,  so please be sure to have students dress in layers. Please be sure to label all jackets and sweatshirts as students often leave them behind on the bus, on the playground, and in the cafeteria at this time of the year.

Thank you for taking the time to read through the May Newsletter. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Miss Kathleen Maloney

Delaney

Counselors'

Corner

Dear Families,

We are very excited to see the signs of spring all around us. The sun will be feeling warmer and our energy and spirits will grow like the flowers and grass!

Our students have grown in ways that will serve them well in years to come! We continue to infuse social-emotional learning into our classrooms to help children develop the skills that will only enhance their learning and friendships!

Students are putting great effort into their SEL activities after each lesson. We are very proud of them and look forward to finishing up these final weeks of school in their classrooms!

Our kindergarten through third grade students will be learning/reviewing the concepts and language related to the Zones of Regulation (created by Leah M. Kuypers).

Children are taught that we “all experience the different zones.” The most important aspect of feeling identification is recognizing which tools/strategies help us when we are managing particular feelings/zones.

This month students in grades K-3  will also be learning/reviewing concepts and language related to empathy. We also discuss how empathy can strengthen relationships and help us feel happy and proud.

Respectfully,

Daniela Paparo

Raffaella Paparo

Kristen McLellan

Bus Updates &

Information

Bus Evacuation

On the morning of Monday, May 3, the Delaney and Roderick Schools will conduct our second required school bus evacuation drill for this school year. The Wrentham Schools staff, bus drivers, and students did a wonderful job during the fall evacuation and we expect all to go just as smoothly this spring. All students will participate in this drill even if they are driven to school. On this day, school staff will support students who are driven to school as normal in reporting to the bus area in order to practice the bus drill. There are no changes needed to our regular morning arrival routines. Some students have expressed concern about the change in routine on days similar to this or they are worried about practicing the drill itself. At home you can support your child by simply reminding them that this is just practice so that everyone, including the adults, know what to do. Additional school staff will be present during the drill to support students and ensure the safety of everyone. Students will not be marked tardy to their classrooms and breakfast will still be available to students who complete the drill a little later than their typical morning arrival time.

Bus Behavior

Earlier in the month of April, Miss Maloney and Mrs. Dietz met with all students at Delaney for a spring School Bus Expectations review. The acronym BOOGIE reminds us to:

Be kind, hands and feet to self

On your bottom, all the time

Only stand when you are leaving

Get seated right away

Inside voice

Enter and exit safely, walking feet

The students showed Miss Maloney and Mrs. Dietz that they knew exactly what to do on the bus with a quick review and we are confident that they will continue to try their best. At home, families can continue to support safe bus rides by reviewing the BOOGIE acronym.
