Mental Health Awareness Month

Chances are that you know someone who is struggling with their mental health. People experiencing mental health challenges aren’t broken — they need support and care. And that begins with a conversation.

This month we have an opportunity to break the stigma around mental health by talking openly, compassionately, and kindly to each other. No one should ever struggle alone.

If you want to quickly be connected to a mental health care provider, contact Care Solace, a complimentary and confidential mental health care coordination service provided by Center Joint Unified School District:

Field Trips

We would like to share some highlights of two recent field trips from the sites in our district:

First, Students from Center High attended Sierra College/ARC Trade Schools. The students had the opportunity to tour the Automotive program, the medical and nutrition program, the Construction and welding program, the Culinary Institute and Robotics program. They look forward to going again next year!

Next up, The Wilson C. Riles Performance Drama class traveled to the Mondavi Performing Arts Center at U.C. Davis on April 19th for a special performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.  The renown dance troupe from New York City performed to students from around the Sacramento area, presenting a unique glimpse into African-American culture as told through choreography performed to the music of

blues, jazz, and spirituals. The students had a wonderful time getting to see a professional stage production as a prelude to their own theatrical performance in May.

ICYMI: New Board Member and Positions

After a rigorous application process and public interview, the CJUSD Board of Trustees appointed Mrs. Adrianna Sammons to fill its vacant board seat at last week’s school board meeting.  Mrs. Sammons grew up in the Sacramento area and has been an active and contributing member of the Center community for over fifteen years. She lives in Antelope with her 5 children (4 boys and 1 girl) and her husband, Ainsley. Most recently, she has been extremely active in the Oak Hill Elementary  PTA. Mrs. Sammons “[has] a passion for caring for others, education and seeing and supporting others striving for their best self. I enjoy reading, writing, poetry, singing and dancing. I recently wrote my first children’s book and am working on the next steps towards publishing. I enjoy giving back to the community.” She is eager to begin in this role and is honored to serve the students, families, and staff of our district.

Mrs. Sammons will be officially sworn into office at the May 17, 2023, CJUSD Board of Trustees meeting.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Mrs. Sammons to the district and board team!

CJUSD board members

We welcome Chris Borasi as the new Director of Human Resources and Student Services.  Chris was approved by the School Board at last night’s meeting, and will be replacing David Grimes, who retires at the end of the current school year.

Chris was raised in Santa Cruz before attending Sonoma State University, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and a single subject teaching credential in Physical Education.  He later completed an administrative credential and Master’s Degree in Applied School Leadership from National University.  Chris taught P.E. for 3 years in Petaluma, and has been with our District for 18 years.  He held many positions at Wilson C. Riles Middle School including P.E. Teacher, Academic Coordinator, Assistant Principal, and 4 years as the Principal of Riles.  This past year he served as a Principal on Special Assignment working to improve student engagement throughout the district.

Chris and his wife are the parents of a son and a daughter. He enjoys golfing and spending time with his family.  Chris coached several years of high school water polo, and also served as a coach on the national level for the Junior National Water Polo team. Congratulations Chris!

Tracey Sievert

Congratulations to Tracey Seivert, who at last night’s School Board Meeting was named the new Principal of North Country Elementary School!  This is Tracey’s 5th year in the district, having previously served as the Assistant Principal of North Country.  Tracey replaces Jason Farrel who earlier was named as the Principal of Rex Fortune Elementary.

Tracey grew up in the area and graduated from Casa Roble High School.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in American Multicultural Studies from Sonoma State University, where she also received her multiple subject teaching credential.  She continued her studies at Teachers College of San Joaquin, receiving both a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and School Administration, and an administrative credential.

Prior to her service in our district, Tracey worked in Galt, first for 10 years as an elementary school teacher, and then for 2 years as a Vice Principal.

Tracey and her husband are the parents of one daughter with a second child on the way.  In addition to her family, Tracey enjoys shopping, water sports, travel, camping, and crafts.  An interesting fact about Tracey is that she is a dart player, having successfully competed at both the regional and national levels in soft tip and steel tip darts.
