March Announcements

I hope that you and your families had a great February vacation! We have many exciting events for Let's Celebrate Reading Spirit Week from Monday, February 27th to Friday, March 3rd! Thank you to Mrs. Lopez and Mrs. DeVore for organizing an exciting week with many fantastic activities! Please see the WPS Literacy Week Schedule for more information.

Over the last school year, we have seen an increase in students on social media platforms in grades 4-6. We encourage all parents and guardians to talk to their children about safe and appropriate online use at home. The Child Welfare Information Gateway, a service of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has several tips for parents on how to teach best practices to children. They can be found at childwelfare.gov/topics/management/workforce/socialmedia/safety.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Mr. Kevin Martes

Principal

Roderick School Counselors Corner

March’s word of the month, and focus for schoolwide classroom lessons, is Perseverance.

What is it? Perseverance is the persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success(Oxford Dictionary).

Why is it important? Perseverance is one of the key qualities you need to build success. Life is hard. Life is messy. We want our children to be prepared to handle challenges in stride.

What does it look like? Working through difficulties to reach previously set goals, seeking feedback and using it constructively, viewing challenges as an opportunity to grow.

Check out this clip titled: Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance

Roderick School Homework Club

Homework is meant to serve as an extension of the hard work students do in school, allowing them the opportunity to further refine and build upon their knowledge. Recognizing the importance of homework completion, we have established an after school homework program here at Roderick.

Homework Club meets in the Roderick Library on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:45—3:45 pm:

If you would like to sign your student up for Homework Club, please click here for additional information.

Roderick Rising Scholars Program

This spring, we are updating the MCAS Boost program to adequately prepare all Roderick School students for the English Language Arts and Math MCAS tests. The Roderick Rising Scholars is a one-week program during the school day before the English Language Arts test from March 27th to March 31st and a one-week program before the Math test from April 24th to April 28th. Students will review important test taking skills and strategies such as reviewing the different kinds of questions on the MCAS test, planning an open response, and citing evidence from the test in your answer. Our goal is to help all Roderick School students become strategic test takers on both the ELA and Math MCAS tests.

2023 Grade 6 Camp Bournedale Trip

Our 6th-grade students will be attending Camp Bournedale in Plymouth, Massachusetts for their annual overnight class trip from Wednesday, June 7th to Friday, June 9th. Each year, this is a memorable trip that is a highlight for many students during their time in the Wrentham Public Schools.

On the evening of Thursday, March 30th at 6:00 PM in the Roderick Cafeteria, staff from Camp Bournedale will hold an information session for 6th-grade families. This will include a Question & Answer session at the end of the presentation. During the school day on Thursday, March 30, staff from Camp Bournedale will present an information session to our 6th-grade students.
