Principal’s Message for March:

Time is flying by this year!! I really appreciate your support with all the weather issues we have been having the last week. The upside…the lake could be full!!
We are moving along slowly but surely with the rebuild and insurance. It is a slow process but once we get it all settled things will move at lightning speed (so they tell me)!! Again, I appreciate the amazing students and parents of Berry Creek Elementary for being so patient and understanding. One day when we all stand together at the new school it will all be worth it. For everything our families have gone through they (you) deserve nothing less!!
Parent conferences are coming up this month, please attend! You were your child’s first teacher! We are all partners in their education to help them be their best self!!

Fondly,

Mrs. Oxford

Dear Berry Creek Families,

On Tuesday, March 21st, our students are participating in the farm to school experience! As part of the program, students will have the opportunity to bring food home from the Farmer's Market! Please ask your child about the program, and what they learned! This presentation was sponsored by the Butte County Office of Education and we were very lucky to have been chosen to participate!! For more information read the attached flier.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks,

Patsy Oxford

Mr. Peet's Corner

It's been another interesting month. After a time away from doing P.E. with the Bangor kids we've once again joined forces. This time soccer has been the theme combined with plenty of other competitive games. Everyone is getting faster from our daily runs and in particular Decemburr is rewriting the record books. In the classroom our focus has been Geometry, The Middle Ages, Environmental Science and improving our writing skills. We've even tried writing lyrics to our own songs. It's definitely a work in progress. Please continue to make sure your student has the proper footwear for p.e. and finishes ALL of their daily home work.

News from Miss Perez

Hello TK-2 Families,

I hope you all found ways to make the most out of the surprise snowy vacation!

Kindergarten is starting chapter 7: Representing, Counting, and Writing numbers from 11-20. 1st graders are comparing and ordering numbers.  Please practice greater than less than with your kiddos! 2nd grade has blasted through addition of 3-digit numbers and is now starting subtraction of 3-digit numbers.  This is a frustrating skill with lots of steps, but so far they are doing great! Please check your child's homework for correctness, and lend them your skills if they need some help.

This month in ELA:

Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades are finishing up Unit 4. We will take the unit test starting March 6th. Leading up to this test it is a good idea to make sure that your child can read all of the words that are on the backs of the books in their Reading Folder.  If they cannot, then please keep the books and continue to practice the words at home.

This month we are moving on to the Fitness and Skill blocks of the Pyramid of Success.

Fitness: " Act, eat, and think right"- "To do your best - 100% - and succeed you must act right, eat right, and think right.  Making the effort to do the right thing can never be taken away from you. If you see someone breaking the rules tell yourself, 'They are hurting themselves, but they are teaching me what NOT to do.'" (HFK)

Skill: "Practice makes perfect."- "Be good at what you do! Learn the skill. Master the subject. Too improve your level of Skill takes practice, study,  and repetition, repetition, repetition." (HFK)

Please look for a new Pyramid newsletter in your child's homework folder.

Thank you for all you do to support us in learning and growing!

What the Students Are Learning

English Language Arts

Students have been learning about pronouns, adverbs, and suffixes. They are developing a deeper understanding of comprehension (recalling the details of what they have read) by using graphic organizers.  Graphic organizers help students to map out what they read, so they remember who the characters are, what the characters were doing and what part they play in the story, as well the when, where, why, and how of the story.

Writing

Students have focused on editing sentences including capitalization, abbreviation, and adding adverbs to make their writing more interesting.

Science

Students are learning about Force and Energy.  They have gained a strong understanding of both potential and kinetic energy.

Students learned about characters in history who made big changes for not only themselves, but also for people in the future, such as Cesar Chavez and Sacagawea.  In addition, February was Black History Month, so students developed an understanding of the sacrifices made by individual black people that paved the way for changes that made life better for all people including Harriett Tubman, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Ruby Bridges.

Student of the Month

For the month of February, the Pyramid of Success Character Traits were Action and Determination.  The student who exhibited these traits both commendably and with resolve was Thomas Wike .
